My skin recovery journey with Eau Thermale Avène

For someone with sensitive skin, I consider myself lucky as I don’t have pimple/acne issues. So when I had pimple outbreak back in December, I thought that is was just because of PMS or age is catching up. I was completely wrong when I started spotting red patches on my face. Went to the doctor and it was identified as an allergic reaction (not sure to what) and had a steroid jab. Immediately everything subsided except for 1 pimple on my forehead (right smack in between my brows). I usually don’t do much when I had pimples as they go away on their own but this round, I was completely wrong…

It continues growing to a huge one and this photo was taken
when I was still ignorance of the ‘pimple’

I went to the doctor and he said that I had a bacterial infection most likely the ‘staph infections’ and it was not a pimple. He said that it could be due to the previous allergic reaction and the bacteria had infected one of the rashes. He helped to remove the pus which is so thick and icky that it can’t even get out with a small hole. I ended up with a hole on the face that is as wide as a cotton bud. The entire bud can go in to clean the ‘wound’.

Little did we know that the infection was that bad that I woke up with a swollen face the next day as the bacteria spread down to my entire face. I was not allowed to go out to avoid the condition to worsen.

My swollen face (have to block my eyes as I look extremely hideous here)

I had to be placed under antibiotics (medicine & cream) and was not allowed to wash my face except from wiping it with a hanky. Tell me how long can you last without washing / cleansing their face?

I started washing my face apart from the forehead area once I see the swell subside. My skin condition has deteriorated badly. To ensure that the condition didn’t get any worst, I used Eau Thermale Avène products as this brand specially cater the needs for sensitive skin.

Pic from left of my 3-week progress: Face is still swollen | Swell completely gone | Finally can remove my bandage

I started with the most basic of all – cleanser, soothe, toner& moisturizer and protector:
Step 1 Cleanse: Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Cleansing Foam 150ml
Step 2 Soothe: Avène Thermale Spring Water 50ml, 150ml or 200ml
Step 3 Tone: Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Toner 200ml
Step 4 Moisture: Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream 40ml
Step 5 Protect: Eau Thermale Avène Day Protector Tinted SPF 30 40ml

STEP 1 CLEANSE: Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Cleansing Foam 150ml (RM95)

I cleanse my face with Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Cleansing Foam 150ml once a day instead of twice. In the morning I simply wash my face with water as I tried washing my face twice daily but in the evening my face starts to get oily as I’ve stopped cleansing and applying anything on my face for some time. I like how it cleanses the impurities and dirt from the face.

STEP 2 SOOTHE: Avène Thermal Spring Water 50ml (RM25), 150ml (RM49) and 200ml (RM69)

Secondly, I had a secret weapon – Avène Thermale Spring Water Spray. This product contains Avène Thermale Spring Water sourced directly from Avene, France and Nitrogen only for ease of pumping and nothing else which is well known to soothes, softens and hydrates the skin as well as helping eczema skin. Not only this, Avène Thermale Spring Water can be used to set makeup, as aftershave and as dermatological care – post surgery, sunburn, redness on the face, damaged skin and for little baby’s diaper rash too. As I have hypersensitive skin, I easily get allergic reaction (urticaria or better known as hives). I was at first skeptical on how good it was towards helping eczema and decided to give it a try to the hives and the redness and itchiness reduce within 15 minutes.

STEP 3 TONE: Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Toner 200ml (RM89)

I continued with applying Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Toner 200ml (RM89) and Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream 40ml (RM109) twice daily.

STEP 4 MOISTURE: Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream 40ml (RM109)

This Light Hydrating Cream has a very ‘light’ and non-sticky texture. The product has a light fragrance that is quite pleasing and it is very refreshing at every use. The face feels hydrated and moisturized.

These are my 四宝 (direct translation four treasure) for the next few weeks. I must say that I was really lucky to be introduced to Eau Thermale Avène before I had this ‘calamity’.  I have seen Eau Thermale Avène at retail pharmacies but have never try it until I went to Eau Thermale Avène blogger event and find out that Eau Thermale Avène products contain Avène Thermale Spring Water from a village in France called Avène … Yup. That’s how the brand got its name.

And finally a pic without being censored

STEP 5 PROTECT:  Eau Thermale Avène Day Protector Tinted SPF 30 40ml (RM99)

If you notice, my skin tone has become uneven (forehead and darker) as I’ve not applied anything there but the products I’ve been using has allow my face to maintain moisturize and fair.

I started using Eau ThermaleAvène Day Protector Tinted SPF 30 40ml (RM99) as it’s very important to protect the skin from the UV ray. It’s has SPF30 PA++ and suitable for sensitive skin. I’m always not a fan of tinted SPF as it always too fair for me but this time I was wrong…

See how it blends in perfectly well with my skin.
P/S: My eye bag is horrible and I need to start using eye cream soon.

If you notice, it helps to even out the skin tone after I apply it and I actually use it as my makeup base cum foundation since I can’t use makeup yet and yes, I avoid applying on the infected area. Now, I just need to continue putting a white patch on the scar every night hopefully the hole will seal completely.

Let’s hope my skin condition will continue to improve.

Hacksaw Ridge & Split

It's almost end of February. How many movies have you watch this year? Me, quite a number but I must say that so far the movie that is worthwhile watching are Split & Hacksaw Ridge.

The synopsis of Split itself is interesting. It's a story of Kevin who has 23 split personalities and another soon to be released.

I've never notice the actor, James McAvoy before and I must admit that he's a really good actor. He is able to bring out the different characters through his expressions, body languages and his speech. It's so distinguishable and one can easily tell who he is at every moment.

Even though, there's only 5 actors/actresses in this movie, there's never a dull moment.

Rating: 5/7

Hacksaw Ridge

I was skeptical when I watched the trailer. I thought it's gonna be another slow movie with lots of conversation. The beginning of the movie was relatively slow but the moment the war starts... that's when I can't take my eyes off the screen.

I jumped from my seat twice (far more interesting than horror movie). So much surprise & shock moments and Andrew Garfield did a very good job in portraying Desmond Doss. A very straightforward person who holds on tightly to his on belief/principle. The movie is based on a real story thus making it even more emotional. The persistence of Doss to hold on to his principles despite being gang bang and to miracle-ly saving 75 comrades is something one admires.

The director did a good job with the filming and none of the effects look fake including the death (people splitting into two, etc). Yes, you see people dying and it's really gruesome. Not recommended for the faint of hearts.

New Year's Goal

It's 2 days past Ditch New Year's Resolution Day (17 Jan). Have you gave up your resolution or still working on it?

Did you accomplish your resolutions last year? Are you like this:

OR this:

No matter who you are… if you have a goal, let’s try to work towards it.

Me? I'm the latter. I’ve signed up at Celebrity Fitness for a 1-year plan since last September with a very simple goal in mind: I need to exercise more often instead of doing none. I joined as a secondary with a friend to enjoy one of their promotion so this is not a sponsored post.

I was a newbie to the gym and I felt intimidated during my first few visits. I do not know what to do nor how to use the ‘machines’. And the worst was meeting people that I know in the gym. I felt like hiding.

True story but I overcome that after a few rounds and reading an article stating that most of the time people in the gym couldn’t be bother with others and of course, I had 3 sessions with a personal trainer who gave useful advice. As an introvert, I do somehow still feel intimidated and always pray that I don’t meet anyone I know. I would rather be amongst strangers.

Have I been committed to the goal? It was good for the first 3 months and I completely stopped in December due to a bacterial infection (not related to the gym) and was not allowed to go out. I'm now back on track.

So, are you planning to lose weight or wanna keep fit and try out the gym? Not sure how committed you can be for a 1 year plan? I like how Paris B’s advice on “How Sample-sized mini beauty products can teach us athing or two about how to reach your life goals”

To quote her

“Instead of committing and pledging to do something big at the start of the new year, when you’re raring to go, and feeling guilty and have all these lofty ambitions and goals in your head, instead, test out the idea or notion, by starting small. Sample it first, if you will.”

So, if you are not sure how many months you can be consistent about going to the gym, you can either sign-up for 1 month plan to see if it fits your lifestyle or sign-up for 1-2 days free trial at Fitness First
